Can Ocion Blue be used with any pool surface?
Yes. Ocion Blue is safe for all pool surfaces. For newly constructed or resurfaced plaster pools, make sure the surface is fully cured before use.
Can I use Ocion Blue in my saltwater pool?
Yes. Ocion Blue is compatible and stable with:
• Ozonators
• UV light systems
• D.E., sand, and cartridge filters
• Saltwater systems and chlorine generators
It also works with most pool chemicals, including chlorine, bromine, oxychloride, ozone, and salts from chlorine generators. However, never mix chemicals directly with Ocion Blue before adding them to the pool.
Always follow safe chemical-handling practices:
• Never pour chemicals together in the same container.
• Always add chemical to water, not water to chemical.
• Avoid applying chemicals repeatedly to the same spot in the pool.
• When using concentrated chemicals, prevent direct contact with skin or pool surfaces.
Do I still need to use chlorine or bromine in my pool or hot tub?
Yes. A primary disinfectant is still required, but you can reduce chlorine or bromine use by up to 90%. Your pool or spa will also need about half as many treatments compared to using disinfectant alone.
How often do I use Ocion Blue?
Every pool and hot tub is different depending on size and usage. Based on our testing and customer feedback, most people can reduce disinfectants by up to 90% and treat their pool or spa about half as often each year. To make dosing simple, use our copper test strips and the Ocion Blue mobile app to see exactly how much product to add and when.
How long does Ocion Blue last?
Ocion Blue remains active until it’s used up by bacteria in the water. If your pool or hot tub isn’t being used, you don’t need to add more. The product stays in the water, ready to work when bacteria are introduced. How often you need to re-dose depends on how frequently the pool or spa is used and how much new bacteria enters the water.
Do I need to drain my hot tub before using Ocion Blue?
No, draining isn’t necessary. Just ensure your chlorine level has either dropped to zero or is at least below 0.5 ppm before adding Ocion Blue.
How do I test copper levels in my pool or hot tub?
Use either a 2-part copper test kit or our copper test strips along with the Ocion Blue mobile app. After testing your water, enter the copper reading into the app to find out how much product to add. If you can’t access the app, email us and we’ll provide dosing instructions based on your pool or hot tub volume.
What happens if I add too much Ocion Blue?
To avoid overdosing, add Ocion Blue only during your regular maintenance cycle and always double-check your pool or spa’s water volume before dosing. Monitor copper levels before and after treatment with a copper test kit. Do not use copper or copper/silver ionizers in combination with Ocion Blue.
